The online video streaming site Hulu has proven a hit with folks who just can’t get enough current and archived video programming from Fox and NBC—now, Hulu as picked up another major player was the Walt Disney Company has reached a deal to bring its content to Hulu, as well as take an ownership stake in the joint Fox/NBC operation. Disney is the parent company of the ABC broadcast network; the move means that of the major U.S. broadcast networks, only CBS programming won’t be included in Hulu’s offerings.

Sony seems to think so: after a closed beta period, Sony has launched Free Realms, a browser-based virtual world (but still Windows-only) tied to its Free Realms trading card game. Free Realms tries to blend the open-ended nature of many existing virtual works (like Second Life) with quests, items, leaderboards, and other goal-oriented activities more common in MMORPGS like World of Warcraft. In Free Realms, users can have pets, work at jobs, race around, play games, explore the world, and (of course) customize and deck out their avatars.

The United States has for the first time identified neighboring country Canada as being amongst the worst offenders of copyright piracy, according to the US Trade Representatives (USTR) office.
In a statement issued today, the USTR announced that it has placed Canada on the Priority Watch List of offending nations for the first time.
“In this time of economic uncertainty, we need to redouble our efforts to work with all of our trading partners - even our closest allies and neighbors such as Canada - to enhance protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights,” said Ron Kirk of the USTR.
Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter has released a report downgrading Ubisoft shares from “Strong Buy” to “Buy,” citing a crowded holiday season release schedule.
While the report indicates that Wedbush believes Ubisoft’s fiscal year 2010 product line compares “quite favorably” to the publisher’s succesful releases in fiscal year 2008, timing its releases during the competitive holiday season will limit its potential revenue gains.
According to the report, shares must grow by 23 per cent in the second half of the year in order for Ubisoft to hit its revenue target of EUR 1.1 billion.
